Ashesi staff and faculty share Ghana’s culture with community

November 9, 2016 — For the first Global Cafe for the 2016/2017 academic year, members of Ashesi’s staff and faculty led the community in celebrating and sharing Ghana’s culture. Organised by the Office of Diversity and International Programs (ODIP), the Global Cafes serve as a platform to inform members of the community about the various nationalities and cultures represented throughout campus through sharing of food, display of attire and presentations about the countries.

“The global cafes foster diversity and inclusion within the community,” said Benardine Holdbrook Ghanson, Internationl Programs Officer at the ODIP. “Through the year, everyone has the opportunity to be a globetrotter, and learn a thing or two about other countries.”

For the Ghana global cafe, together with students, staff and faculty dressed up in traditional clothing, led in cultural performances and shared cuisine from the ten regions of Ghana.

“The Ghana global cafe was also an opening for staff members who do not ordinarily interact with students to get to know them better,” Ms. Ghanson added. “ We look forward to building a stronger and more informed community with subsequent cafes about the 20 different countries in our community.”
